Technology videos

In class we watched videos of robotics and how they are helping to make our lifes easier.  We watched alot of videos on how they are incorporating technology into life.  They are infusing technology into cells to help with the treatment of cancer.  The created biotic arms that can pick up grapes, and function as a normal arm would.  These arms are able to function, lift, and grip things like we would with a normal arm.  Then there is a robot that has the ability to walk and balance all on its own.  They are building the technology around the natural world and are making it function like the natural world.

With all this technology it makes me wonder what are it's limitations.  Where does all the new innovations stop, and how far can we take it.  Will we be able to build technology right into DNA. Can we build something that actually lives or is that unacheivable.  If we have things that can sense what we are thinking, can we do that without it being attached to us.  Or can we build a full suit like Tony Stark in "Iron Man"?  All the new technology is pretty amazing but it makes me wonder where does it stop, where do we draw the lines, and is it all ethical?

Sprites

I did not do a post last week so I had to create a new one for my Scratch project. This image above is a picture of the code for my sprite.  The code tells it how to move, what it can and cannot touch, and penalties.
The picture above is a screenshot of all the levels I created, four in all.  A beginning, end, first, and second level.
The image above is the code for my backgrounds, it tells it when to start, stop, and continue to the next levels.

Scratch programs

On the Scratch website I played two different programs.  The first one I played was called Stackman.  In Stackman you stack boards on top of one another to create a path for your character to walk on to the finish.  You also must avoid the red or you will lose.  It is a pretty easy game to figure out, but it is fun.  It is also suprisingly challenging, it isn't as easy as it looks.

The second program I played was called The Chicken, The Fox, and a bag of corn.  It's a puzzle game based on a old riddle. The questions is you have a chicken, a fox, and a bag of corn, and you must get them to the other side of the river, one at a time.  But, the fox will eat the chicken, and the chicken will eat the corn if left alone.  So in this game you have to figure out how to get everything to the other side without losing any of them.

Scratch Homework

For homework this week we did a scratch project outside of the class.  For the sprite I used a horse, I changed the colors on it.  The horse says "Howdy partner" when you press the s key.  A cowbell will play when you press the n key.  The more comfortable I am beoming with the Scrath program the more I like it. It seems to be pretty fun and not that complicated.

Scratch

Tonight we worked with scratch.  We created 2 different sprites.  It was a bit overwhelming at first.  The more I did with it the easier it was though.

Midterm

Margaret Wickenhauser is my mother, and Mary is one of my five sisters. Jordan Storms is a buddy of mine I have known since preschool. Aaron is a cousin on my mothers side of the family and is the closest to me in age of my extended family.

Profootball talk is my favorite site because I love football. I like it because it is a site dedicated to just following football.  I don't have to wade throught all the other sports stories to find the ones I like, and it active year round not just during the season. The best reason why I like it is because they are not like the New York times or the Star Tribune so they report the rumors that are flying around, not just the cold hard facts, while still being responsible.

Spreadsheet M&M

This is a link to the spreadsheet that concerns the color and quantities of M&M's in a package.
We also created a chart.

Chapter 7 dealt with the different types of storage.  A hard disk is storage device that uses one or more inflexible, circular platters that use mangnetic particles to store data.  There are external and internal hard disks. Solid state drive uses flash memory to store data.

You can also store data in a cloud storage.  A cloud storage is an internet storage.  It advantages are that it doesn't use up your computers memory and if your computer crashes you still have it.  It exists after a crash because it can be accessed from any computer.

This should be my shared document. I also embedded it because I don't remember if we were suppose to or not.

Presentation

Output Devices

In class we made a Google Document talking about output devices.

Animoto vs Coomputer Software

The computer software was very frustrating to use compared to Animoto.  With the software you had to get your pictures, put them together, find your music and do a bunch of other things. It seemed like a lot of steps to make so little actual progress. I did like that it had more variety than the Animoto.  Animoto was easy, all you had to do was upload pictures in the order you wanted and put music in and your done. The one problem I had was uploading music from my own computer.

About Me

I am Karl Wickenhauser, I grew up in Cologne, MN and am a Biology major.  I really enjoyed the article on triangulation and how that works.  I found it cool how the founder of myspace, Tom Anderson, originally started the website as a way to promoted his music.  I also was amazed that Bill Gates was able to start working on computers at 13 years old because at the time the computers were so undevolop, it seems like that would have been something that would be over a 13 year old's head.  The  thing that I find really cool about computers is how you can take a little chip or disk and run this a complicated in depth program.  An example would be games, all that information stored on a little disk.

8/23/2010

Today in class we review the main points of chapter one. After that we fought with our computers until we were able register our books.  Next we created our blogs and finally we made our firsts posts to it.
